Units Made Easy was built by a small, independent team of software engineers and content specialists who were frustrated by the cluttered, ad-heavy unit conversion sites that dominated search results. Many of the existing tools loaded slowly on mobile, buried the answer beneath layers of pop-ups, or returned imprecise results due to rounded conversion factors. We set out to build something simpler: a conversion site that loads in under a second, displays the answer prominently at the top of every page, and explains the math so users can verify the result themselves. Our team has backgrounds in scientific computing, metrology, and technical writing, and we draw on that experience to make sure every page is both accurate and easy to understand.

Unit conversions are part of everyday life: a parent measuring a child's growth, a cook following a recipe from a different country, a traveler interpreting a road sign, a student completing a physics problem, or a professional shipping goods internationally. Yet most people don't have the conversion factors memorized and shouldn't have to. We believe a conversion tool should respect the user's time. Accuracy is non-negotiable. Every conversion factor used on Units Made Easy is sourced from internationally-recognized standards bodies, including the International Bureau of Weights and Measures (BIPM), the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in the United States, and ISO 80000 (Quantities and Units). For example, the inch-to-centimeter ratio of exactly 2.54 was defined by the international yard and pound agreement of 1959; the pound-to-kilogram conversion (1 lb = 0.45359237 kg) comes from the same agreement. Temperature conversions use the exact formulas defined by the ITS-90 international temperature scale.

Each calculator on this site is unit-tested against reference values published by these bodies before being deployed. We display results to appropriate precision — usually four to six significant figures for everyday use — and the underlying calculations are performed at full double-precision floating-point accuracy.
